Diwali offer ideas for restaurants that bring customers back
Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November. Ten restaurant offers with rupee costs, WhatsApp message samples and a timeline, so festive guests come back after Diwali too.
In this guide
Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November, so you have about three weeks to plan Diwali offers for your restaurant. Five offers you can start this week: a festive thali or combo at one fixed price, a family meal for four, pre-order sweet and snack boxes, a free dessert above a set bill size, and a coupon for a return visit in November. Work out the cost of each offer before you announce it, send one clear WhatsApp message to customers who have agreed to hear from you, and plan how you will bring festive guests back after Diwali. This guide gives you the dates, ten offer ideas with rupee costs, sample messages and the setup steps.
Diwali 2026 dates for restaurants
Diwali is a five-day festival, and each day brings different customers to your door. Plan your menu, staff and offers around these dates.
- Dhanteras, Friday 6 November: shopping, family outings, sweets bought for home.
- Choti Diwali (Kali Chaudas), Saturday 7 November: last-minute shopping, snack and sweet orders, home visits.
- Diwali (Lakshmi Puja), Sunday 8 November: puja and dinner at home; sweet and snack orders peak before the evening.
- Govardhan Puja, Monday 9 or Tuesday 10 November: Annakut food at home and in temples.
- Bhai Dooj, Wednesday 11 November: brothers and sisters meet, often over a meal.

The two sources give different dates for Govardhan Puja, and dates can shift by region, so check your local panchang before you print anything.
10 Diwali offer ideas for restaurants, with what each costs you
The numbers below are examples to show the maths. Put in your own menu prices and food cost.
1. A festive thali or combo at one price
Build one Diwali plate from dishes you already make well, and give it a name. A single price is easy to say on WhatsApp and quick to bill.
What it costs you (example): a thali priced at ₹299 with food cost of ₹105 leaves you ₹194 per plate. There is no discount at all, because the value is in the combination.
2. A family meal for four
Many families eat out together in Diwali week. A fixed meal for four (two starters, two mains, breads, rice and a sweet) at a round price helps them decide fast.
What it costs you (example): if the same dishes cost ₹1,150 when ordered one by one, and you sell the family meal at ₹999, you give up ₹151 per table. If food cost is ₹380, you still keep ₹619 per table.
3. Pre-order sweet and snack boxes
Many families buy sweets and namkeen for guests and gifts. Take pre-orders a week ahead, with a pickup date and time slot, and ask for an advance by UPI.
What it costs you (example): a box sold at ₹499 with ₹200 of food and ₹30 of packaging leaves ₹269 per box. Pre-orders also tell you exactly how much to make, so less goes to waste.
4. Corporate and housing society bulk orders
Offices hold Diwali lunches, and housing societies hold Diwali get-togethers. Send a simple per-plate quote to office admins and society committees you already know.
What it costs you (example): 40 plates at ₹250 each is a ₹10,000 order. Fix the menu, the delivery time and a 50% advance in writing. Turn down a date if your kitchen is already full that day; a late bulk order costs you more than a missed one.
5. Bhai Dooj table booking
Bhai Dooj (11 November) is a natural day for a meal out. Offer a "Bhai Dooj thali for two" and take table bookings in advance, so you know how many guests to expect.
What it costs you (example): a free sweet for each booked table, with a food cost of about ₹30, in return for a confirmed booking.
6. A coupon for a return visit in November
Give every Diwali-week bill a coupon for the next visit, with a fixed end date. For example, "₹100 off on a bill of ₹600 or more, valid 12 to 30 November".
What it costs you (example): if you hand out 200 coupons and 60 come back, you give ₹6,000 in discounts on at least ₹36,000 of sales in a month that is usually slower after the festival.
7. Double loyalty points in Diwali week
If you already run loyalty points, double them for bills between 6 and 11 November. Points only cost you money when the guest comes back to use them.
What it costs you (example): if your normal rule is 1 point for every ₹20 spent and each point is worth ₹1 in your rewards, an ₹800 bill earns 40 points (₹40). Doubled to 2 points for every ₹20, it earns 80 points (₹80), used on a later visit.
8. A free dessert above a set bill size
"Free gulab jamun on bills above ₹1,200" pushes a table to add one more dish. Set the line a little above your usual bill per table.
What it costs you (example): if your usual table spends ₹1,000 and adds ₹200 to reach the free dessert, at 35% food cost you earn ₹130 more on the extra dishes and spend about ₹25 on the dessert.
9. A lunch offer for your quiet hours
Even in festival weeks, many restaurants have slow hours. Look at your hourly sales report and put a simple offer only on those hours, for example a ₹199 lunch from 12 to 3 on weekdays.
What it costs you (example): if your kitchen and staff are already paid for those hours, every extra plate adds its margin. A ₹199 lunch with ₹80 of food cost adds ₹119 per plate.
10. A thank-you offer only for your regulars
Your regulars are the guests most likely to come back. Send a short WhatsApp message only to customers who visited three or more times, with a small extra like a free chai or a festive sweet on their next bill.
What it costs you (example): a message to 200 regulars costs ₹200 at ₹1 per marketing message on Dhaba.ai (price list), plus about ₹15 for each free chai that gets used.
Work out the cost before you announce it
A discount looks small on a poster and large in your monthly account. Before you announce any offer, do this check:
- Write down the normal price and the food cost of the item or combo.
- Work out what you keep per plate today: price minus food cost.
- Work out what you keep per plate with the offer.
- Work out how many plates you must sell with the offer to keep the same money.
Worked example: you sell a thali at ₹300 with ₹105 food cost, so you keep ₹195. With 10% off, the price is ₹270 and you keep ₹165. If you sold 100 thalis last week, you kept ₹19,500. To keep the same ₹19,500 with the offer, you must sell 119 thalis (₹19,500 divided by ₹165), which is 19% more plates. If you think the offer will not bring that many extra guests, choose a combo or a free item instead of a straight discount.
How GST applies to discounts and free items depends on how they are shown on the bill. Ask your CA before you print the offer.
Tell your regulars on WhatsApp
WhatsApp is the easiest way to reach customers who already know you. Three rules keep it working:
- Only message people who agreed. WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy (retrieved 18 Oct 2026) says you may contact people only if they gave you their number and opted in to receive messages from you. Ask at the counter, "Can we send you our offers on WhatsApp?", and note the answer.
- Send few messages. One announcement, one reminder, and one thank-you after Diwali is enough. Every message should be easy to stop: tell people they can reply STOP.
- Time it. Send the announcement about ten days before Diwali (around 28 to 30 October), the reminder two days before Dhanteras, and the return-visit message on 12 or 13 November.
Three sample messages
Replace "Sharma Dhaba" with your own restaurant name, and the prices and dates with your own.
Announcement (send around 29 October):
Namaste from Sharma Dhaba! This Diwali, our festive thali is ₹299 and our family meal for four is ₹999. Sweet boxes can be pre-ordered till 5 November for pickup on 6 to 8 November. Reply to book. Reply STOP to stop offers.
Reminder (send around 4 November):
Diwali is on Sunday. Pre-orders for sweet boxes close on Thursday 5 November. Reply with the number of boxes and your pickup time. Happy Diwali from Sharma Dhaba!
Thank-you and return visit (send on 12 November):
Thank you for celebrating Diwali with us. Show this message for ₹100 off on a bill of ₹600 or more, till 30 November. Reply STOP to stop offers.
What it costs: on Dhaba.ai, a marketing message on WhatsApp is ₹1 each (pricing page, retrieved 18 Oct 2026). One message to a list of 500 opted-in customers costs ₹500; all three messages to that same list cost ₹1,500. Sending the bill itself on WhatsApp is ₹0.50 per bill, and a printed bill is free. WhatsApp marketing needs a WhatsApp Business account connected to Dhaba.ai and message templates approved by Meta; the app walks you through both.
Bring them back after Diwali
The days after Diwali are when a festive guest becomes a regular, or forgets you. Three steps help:
- Save the phone number on every Diwali bill. Without a number, you cannot invite the guest back.
- Send the return-visit coupon with a fixed end date. "Till 30 November" gives guests a clear reason to come back soon.
- Ask how the meal was. A short feedback form after the bill tells you what to fix before the wedding season, and happy guests can be asked to leave a Google review.
In December, look at how many coupons came back and which offer brought the most new numbers. That tells you what to repeat for Christmas and New Year.
Set it up in your billing software
You can run every offer in this guide from Dhaba.ai, and all of it is included in the usage fee, with no add-on to buy:
- Festive menu: add a festive menu with the thali, the family meal and the sweet boxes as items, with variants for box size.
- Coupons and discounts: create a coupon code for the November return visit with an end date and a minimum bill, and print the same end date on the offer. Set staff discount limits: the highest discount allowed, a cap for cashiers, and the level above which a manager must approve.
- Loyalty points: change your earning rule in loyalty points for Diwali week, and change it back yourself on 12 November.
- Customer list and campaigns: use the customer list and WhatsApp campaigns to send to groups like "visited 3+ times" or "not seen in 45 days". You see the cost before you press send.
- WhatsApp inbox: customer replies and pre-order requests land in one inbox that your staff can answer.
- Feedback: send a feedback form after the bill and reply to Google reviews from the same login.
- Reports: check your sales by hour to find your quiet hours, and check discounts and free items every day of Diwali week.

FAQ
What is a good Diwali offer for a small restaurant?
A festive combo or thali at one fixed price is the easiest. It needs no discount, it is simple to explain on WhatsApp, and it is quick to bill. Add a coupon for a return visit in November so the festive guest comes back.
Should I give a discount or a free item?
Work out the cost of both. A free item with a low food cost, like a sweet or a chai, often costs you less than a percentage discount on the whole bill, and guests remember it. Use a straight discount only if you have checked how many extra plates you need to sell.
When should I send the WhatsApp message?
Send the announcement about ten days before Diwali, a reminder two days before Dhanteras, and a thank-you with the return coupon a few days after Diwali. Message only customers who have agreed to receive offers from you.
How do I stop staff misusing coupons?
Use coupon codes with a fixed end date and a minimum bill, set a cap on manual discounts for cashiers with manager approval above it, and check your discount and free-item report at the end of every day in Diwali week.
Can I run Diwali offers on Swiggy and Zomato too?
Yes, but you set those offers in each platform's partner app. When the orders come in, you bill them in Dhaba.ai by picking the platform and typing the order ID, so your festive sales from every channel show in one report.
Try Dhaba.ai at your counter.
